Daventry

Close to the border with Warwickshire, Daventry (/ˈd vəntri/ DAV-ən-tree, historically /ˈdeɪntri/ DAYN-tree) is a western Northamptonshire civil parish and market town. Middlemore Farm, Drayton, Ashby Fields, Lang Farm, Timken, Royal Oak, The Grange, Stefen Hill, The Headlands, The Southbrook, and Monksmoor Park recently include housing estates that Daventry has.

East of the A425, the Daventry Country Park and reservoir is on the edge of the town centre. Although the Grand Junction Canal (Grand Union) passed a few miles north, the canals passed around Daventry. Because it was the point of maximum contact with England and Wales, Daventry was chosen.

The busy sector for air traffic control of Daventry received the town's name. An expansion was carried out as part of an agreement with Birmingham City Council, Daventry was designated as an 'overspill' to house people and industry moved from Birmingham in the early 1960s. Known as the DIRFT is warehousing and distribution centre.

Without its station, one of the largest towns in England is Daventry. Daventry University Technical College opened in 2013. Daventry Town F.C., play at Communications Park, is a Non-League football team that Daventry has.

Daventry became well-known across the world with the announcement of "Daventry calling". It was during his stay at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Daventry, according to local legend, that Charles was visited by the ghost of Thomas Wentworth.

Providing for 16- to 18-year-olds training and education, the Grange was converted to become Daventry Tertiary College. Daventry Rugby Club and Daventry Amateur Athletic Club is in the town's Stefen Hill Sports Ground. With a population of 78,070 at the 2011 census, it is the administrative centre of Daventry District.
